Dr. Henry Heimlich was an American chest surgeon who, dismayed at the high number of people who die from chocking, in 1974 developed an easy to learn maneuver to help save lives. St John's Ambulance in Kenya has campaigned on their Facebook page for introduction of first aid lessons in Kenya's educational curriculum. With such a move, the number people skilled in first aid would increase in the community and help avert meaningless deaths such as that of this Kisoko boy in Buisa county.

Dismay At Kenyan Government Handling Of Biting Doctor's Strike, Sees Bungoma Blogger Ruthlessly Slay Infamous 36 Jubilee Bloggers


Kenyan doctors have been on strike since December 5th, 2016. The Kenyan government has thrown everything at the doctors save for a solution. The doctors have fought hard for the implementation of the agreement between their union, KMPDU and the Ministry of Health Kenya, CBA 2013, that addresses health sector inefficiencies from issues of staffing of hospitals, equipping hospitals to training and remuneration of doctors. The doctors have been jailed, de-campaigned by government propagandists out to tarnish the profession. The result of all these has been Kenya's biggest public discourse on health care and corruption. It has not been pretty as it has been tainted by politics and ethnicity.

Bungoma:Why This Helicopter Ride Made Everyone Mad

It is official Kenyans have a thing with helicopters. There is the famous case of the Bungoma James Bond who hitched a ride on a choppers landing skids almost plummeting to his death.

Then there is the recent case of the Meru man whose dandia of a politician's helicopter resulted in calls from the prominent politician's supporters for swifter stricter action from police in dealing in what they termed as an attempt at the politician's life.

 On the other scale of  the Kenyan Helicopter problem is the elite who roam the sky in these birds. It could be the case of a white male helicopter pilot of the high beating up a female cop in broad daylight 'for not doing a job': in reference to the steady build up of crowd of curious villagers around his boss's helicopter.

Or this recent helicopter ride in Bungoma over a distance that by road would take less than 10 minutes.

Fight Against Insecurity Nabs Three In Emuhaya, Vihiga County

Anyone who knows Vihiga county in Western Kenya will describe it as a quite unassuming locale. It is not exactly what you would describe as a backwater corner of Kenya, but it has a gentle spirit. The inhabitants her are true reflection of the spirit of mirembe (peace).

If it is true that a society gets the leaders it deserves, given that a peoples' leaders are a reflection of the society they hail from, then the truism that people of Western Kenya are people of mulembe couldn't find a better home in Vihiga county.

None of Vihiga's leaders, now and before, can be labeled firebrand. Keeping this in mind, reports of a crime wave sweeping through Vihiga county these past few years come as an unpleasant surprise.
