UEFA BUTCHERY Kefinco, Kakamega town: Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance.
|
This sign post advertising a butchery was sighted in the Western Kenya town Kakamega, that
nests at the edge of one of the few remnants of the great Congo
equatorial forest-
Kakamega forest.
The neighborhood is Kenfinco, just off the Kakamega- Webuye highway at the Kakamega Nakumatt Mega turn, a sprawling mass of concrete mostly
inhabited by students of Masinde Muliro University of Science and
Technology.
Like any good businessman, the proprietor
takes advantage of any marketing opportunity to gain market share. On
this Champions League night, there is a price offer for all the prime
cuts. In case you are wondering, "
matumbo" is the African delicacy offal (especially when stewed with
Munyu Msherekha) while "
maini" is liver.
Post Update: This picture was taken circa 2013. The butchery might not still exist thanks to the natural rapid evolution of urban centers, more so here following the increased urbanization of Kakamega town in devolution era Kenya. The picture freezes a moment in time allowing for comparison with today. In light of this, what is the current price for a kilo of beef in your neighborhood?
