Street Food Vendors Cleared From Busia Streets
Busia Town, Busia County, Kenya
The County Health and Sanitation department of Busia County, Western Kenya today conducted an impromptu swoop on street food vendors. Being a border town, street food is a common occurrence in Busia town as opportunity sighting businessmen seek to cash in on traders engaging in cross border trade.
However, citing violation of public health regulations such as the lack of health certification of these food handlers and the risk from water washed diseases as the street is not an ideal environment for food handling, the county officials in liaison with law enforcement agencies, took swift action to ensure public safety.
Scores of relatives and friends of the arrested could be seen rushing between the Busia county public health office and the Busia police station inquiring about the whereabouts of their loved ones. Our sources indicate that the arrested street food vendors will be arraigned and charged at the Busia Law Courts for violation of public health laws.
